Dr. Romanzi is an academic women’s health leader based in New York City, with decades of experience collaborating on maternal/newborn and sexual/reproductive health projects with dynamic, creative colleagues in over 20 countries throughout Africa and South Asia. She is an educator, skills trainer, policy analyst, curriculum developer, humanitarian and development program analyst. She holds dual certification from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology for general Obstetrics and Gynecology and in the subspecialty of Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery. She is the founder and co-host of the podcast Sister Surgeons that is dedicated to enlightening healthcare workforce students and colleagues, as well as the general public, on contemporary issues germane to global health equity with a focus on safe surgery.
Whether local or global, Dr. Romanzi is dedicated to health education and health systems equity, breaking down of siloes, navigation across the humanitarian-development continuum, evidence-based quality assurance, and cross-sector dynamics that make real women's empowerment, well-being and health.
SUZY
Dr. Sohier (Suzy) Elneil is Consultant in Urogynaecology and Uro-neurology at University College Hospital and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London. Dr. Elneil started her career in the field of Urogynaecology in the 1990’s when she looked after patients who suffered vesico-vaginal fistulas and female genital mutilation in the developing world.
She is the author and editor-in-chief of the groundbreaking FIGO Global Competency-Based Fistula Surgery Training Manual. Dr. Elneil was trained in Nigeria, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia before undertaking her postgraduate studies at the University of Cambridge, in the United Kingdom. Dr. Elneil is the Training Programme Director for Urogynaecology at University College London Hospitals. Suzy’s work focuses on urogynaecology academic program development in Africa and Asia, fistula surgery, female genital mutilation, and chronic pelvic pain in women.
